Larian Studios Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team could be building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
